One founder with deep roots in the space management industry. Another with a career in software from startups to big tech like Salesforce. We started Bluefield because this industry deserved better tools, and we wanted to be the ones to build them.
How we got here
We come at this from pretty different directions. Greg has deep roots in the space management industry, including time at one of the biggest software companies in the space. Owen's background is in software, from early-stage startups through to big tech like Salesforce. We actually worked together about 15 years ago, lost touch, then reconnected recently and realized we were thinking the same thing: we wanted to build something smaller and more personal, where we could actually see the impact on the people using it.
Farmers markets made sense as the starting point. The software options out there are mostly old legacy systems or expensive enterprise tools that weren't really built for this industry. Market managers have been making it work with what's available, but the tools could be so much better. We wanted to build the kind of product we'd want to use ourselves.
Owen is also getting into farming himself, starting a small berry operation in British Columbia with blueberries, raspberries, and rhubarb. So the connection to local food isn't abstract for us. We care about this space because we're actually in it.
